Our History

HARBROOK Fine Windows, Doors & Hardware has had over 60 years of experience in the window, door and hardware business. Founded in Scotia, New York in 1955 by my Father, Edward Brooks, our family history in the window, door and hardware business dates back to before the 1900s. My Great Grandfather, Samuel E. Wilson, was a locksmith in New York City, and my grandfather, Edward Russell Brooks, owned Brooks Brothers Weather Strips in New Rochelle. Our American roots, heritage, and appreciation for history and architecture are deeply rooted in New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, and, today, an ancestral historic home, the Enos-Brooks house, is stewarded by a family relative in Cheshire, Connecticut.

Harbrook was first known as Harbrook Company during our early days in Scotia, New York, and it soon became a growing company and family business when mom, Dot Brooks, joined the company part-time and my brother and I joined the company in our early teen years. I began my career in our family business, helping my Dad with material fabrication, installation, repair and, eventually, product sales. I learned early on how to produce and demand high quality products, while offering excellent service to our professional and retail customers.

My older brother, Russ, and I worked for many years side-by-side with my Dad and Mom, expanding the business and promoting the use of high quality materials and environmentally friendly products to bring the latest in product technology, design, materials science knowledge, and energy efficient products to our customers.

In 1992, we outgrew our location in Scotia and moved the company to Albany. My Dad retired in 1991 and sadly passed away. But, he instilled, early on, a core legacy of company pride, family values and high quality service to our business and cultural community; we carry that spirit forward.

Harbrook's employees have been with the company for many years. This consistency and employee stability gives our company years of experience and knowledge. In today's fast-changing world, extensive knowledge and experience, along with strong community roots, account for our company's pride, work ethic, and delivery of high quality goods and services.
